This year, our two members of Siesta Labs participated in the Cassini Hackathon, a prestigious international event that brings together innovators from across Europe to tackle global challenges using space technologies.

What is the Cassini Hackathon About?

The Cassini Hackathon is an international event that fosters creative problem-solving using advanced space technologies like Galileo, Copernicus, and EGNOS. Participants are challenged to develop innovative solutions addressing critical global issues, including security, smart solutions, and other impactful areas

This year’s theme, EU Space for Defence & Security, focused on:

  1. Geospatial intelligence for predicting threats and protecting critical infrastructure.

  2. Drone applications to support security operations.

  3. Orbital security solutions for managing satellite collisions and space debris.

This year, the 8th hackathon was held in Prague  alongside events in other 10 European countries, such as Belgium, Italy, Poland, Spain, Ukraine and others. It took place the third weekend in November in Impact hub, a well-known coworking space in Smíchov district.

Our Experience

Before the event, our team engaged in brainstorming sessions to blend diverse perspectives and tackle important challenges. We explored Galileo and Copernicus technologies to identify their practical applications.

The hackathon was so well-organized that all we needed was our fresh minds and creative energy.

Hackathons were more than 20 mentors who helped us refine our concepts and receive valuable feedback. For example, we connected with Natalia Kobliuk from Serco, a global IT service provider, and Ivo Denemark, Director of Startup and Venture Investments. Their insights were incredibly helpful and offered fresh perspectives.

Although we didn’t win, the main thing was that we gained new insights, met many inspiring people, and had a lot of fun.
